The Meyer Memorial Trust has announced 55 grants totaling $1,379,366 awarded to Oregon nonprofit organizations in May and June.
Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare in Astoria has been awarded $12,000 for a passenger van to transport clients with mental illnesses.
The trust also awarded the Manzanita Creative Arts Council $9,000 to produce a 30-minute video about Oswald West State Park. Council President Lola Sorenson said the funds will pay for the work of local artists using a wide range of media and techniques. The project is supported by the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation.
The grant application from the Arts Council noted, “Oswald West is the flagship state park on the Oregon coast and deeply revered by locals as well as visitors from throughout Oregon.” The video will celebrate the park through music, photography, poetry, dance and other arts.
Sorenson emphasized that all the grant will go to artists and production services. The Arts Council is a volunteer organization and project director Mark Beach will donate his time. Last year, Beach and Gary McDaniel created a video about local history and will work together again on this project.
After the video is complete in spring 2005, park staff will show the production to visitors at Nehalem Bay State Park. For more details, visit (www.neahkahnievisions.com)
