Entertainer, 82Nora S. “Sunny” Goehl, 82, of Astoria, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in Warrenton.
Mrs. Goehl was born Feb. 6, 1922 in Portland to Charles and Grace Olson Dahlquist.
She was raised and attended schools in the Portland area. Her father was in the entertainment business, owning his own orchestra and berry farm. The tradition continued with Mrs. Goehl as she also became an entertainer. She worked in Portland until she moved to Astoria in 1939.
In Astoria, she sang at the Amato Supper Club and the Fiesta Club. In 1941, family members say she became the first woman cab driver, employed at the Douglas Cab Company.
On Sept. 9, 1955, she married Ellsworth Thiel in Portland. He owned the Fiesta Club Restaurant and the Seafare Restaurant in Astoria. Mr. Thiel died in 1971, so she took over as the owner/manager of the Fiesta Club.
On Sept. 19, 1980, she married Joe Goehl in Clatskanie. He died in 2000.
Mrs. Goehl was a member of St. Mary’s, Catholic Church in Astoria.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Galin Hall of Portland.
A public funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria.
Private Interment is at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
