Obituuaries: Blacketer

Glenn Ernest Blacketer Sr., of Olympia, Wash., died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 in Olympia.

He was born Dec. 7, 1946 to John and Beatrice Blacketer in Olympia, Wash. His family moved to Seaside in the 1950s, but then returned to Olympia where Mr. Blacketer graduated from North Thurston High School in 1966.

Mr. Blacketer served with the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He worked for the Washington Department of Transportation for 28 years.

He was involved in many activities and sports. He played baseball, basketball, slow-pitch softball and bowling. He also coached and acted as a sports referee. He was a Nisqually Tribal member, involved with the Inter-Tribal Warrior Society, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Blacketer; three brothers, Robert, Charles and Dennis Blacketer; five children, Glenn Jr., Melvin Sr., Daniel, Linda and Janell Blacketer; and nine grandchildren, all of Olympia.

A funeral was held earlier on the Nisqually Reservation in Washington.

Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
