Naselle and Wahkiakum CountyTucked between the shores of Willapa Bay and the majestic Columbia River is a valley dotted with farmlands. Clear rivers and wandering streams provide numerous recreational opportunities.

Historic covered bridgeDon’t miss your chance to see one of the last covered bridges in the Northwest. The bridge is located one-quarter mile south of State Route 4 just off Wahkiakum County’s Loop Road. To get there from Long Beach, take the SR4 toward Longview. Turn right at Loop Road on the south side of the highway, approximately 14 miles east of Naselle.

EVENTSFinnish American Folk FestivalThe Naselle Finnish American Folk Festival draws hundreds of visitors to the region with its 5K Paavo Nurmi Run/Walk, a golf tournament, dance and musical performances, exhibits, food, crafts and demonstrations. It is held July 30, 31 and Aug. 1 this year.

Started in 1982, the festival’s theme this year is “Sauna: The Saturday Night Connection.” This is the 12th biennial celebration that stresses the beliefs of “love and unity” which are depicted in the charter logo of the Naselle FAFF.

The golf tournament is Friday. To register, call (360) 484-3855. On Saturday, the Paavo Nurmi Run begins at 8 a.m. To register, call (360) 465-2613.

Opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by entertainment and sales from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., workshops, arts and crafts displays and demonstrations are held. A play and dancing round out the day’s activities.
