Logger, 87James “Jim” O. Lindros, 87, of Astoria, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 in Portland.

Mr. Lindros was born April 10, 1916, in Lakeside, to Adolf J. and Hannah M. Nieminen Lindros.

He met his future wife while visiting his brother in Deep River, Wash. He and Marion McAllister were married Dec. 10, 1938. She survives, living in Astoria.

Mr. Lindros grew up and attended schools in Lakeside and North Bend. Family members say he had to row one mile to school and then walk one mile because there were no roads around the lake. Mr. Lindros spent most of his adult life around the Grays River, Wash., area. He was a member of the Grays River Methodist Church, and used his heavy equipment to clear the new church site. He also assisted in building the church. He worked as a wood splitter, powder monkey, choker setter and logger. He started a sawmill and logging company in 1948 with a family member. Later he worked as a carpenter and as a commercial fisherman. He built his own fishing boat.

Family members say Mr. Lindros loved sport fishing, and his fishing partners were Oris Smalley of Rosburg, Wash. and Dean Badger of Grays River. His terrier, Tia, was a constant companion.

When he retired, Mr. Lindros moved to Astoria where family members say he enjoyed woodworking and wood crafting. He loved playing cribbage, bird watching, smelt dipping, clam digging, pottery, upholstery, and above all, spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lindros is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David G. and Connie Lindros of Montesano, Wash., and Steven J. and Jeanette Lindros of Astoria; four grandchildren, Laura and David Riat of Washougal, Wash., Brian Lindros of Astoria, and Erik Lindros of Montesano; five great-grandchildren, Tonya, Kayla, Jimmy and Dan Riat of Washougal and Austin Lindros of Jewell; two sisters, Saima Caughell and Betty Wilson of Pendleton; a sister-in-law, Helen Lindros Lesher of Santa Marie, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.
