Jack O. Daly
Seafood industry executive, 80Jack O. Daly, 80, of Moraga, Calif., died Jan. 21, 2004, in Moraga, following a month-long battle with heart-related illnesses.
Mr. Daly was born March 8, 1923 in Portland. After graduating from Grant High School, he earned a business degree from the University of Oregon and served in the U.S. Army, where he reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Mr. Daly married Sue Mercer, also of Portland. She died in 2003.
Shortly after his marriage, Mr. Daly began a career in the seafood industry, first working in Seattle and then relocating to Astoria, where he rose through the ranks of management at Bumble Bee Seafoods. In 1974, he and his family moved to California, where he continued his career with Castle and Cooke Foods, retiring in 1983.
While living in Astoria, Mr. Daly served two terms on the Astoria School Board and was a member of the Astoria Clowns service organization.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy (Thompson) Daly of Seaside and Larkspur, Calif., and Tim and Barbara Daly of Stockton, Calif.; five granddaughters, Amy Frei, Tana Simonsen, Stefanie Netherton, and Andrea and Laura Daly; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Frei and Samantha Netherton.
No service is planned.
Mr. Daly and his family attended a concert at the Liberty Theater before Christmas. Family members say they would be honored for contributions to be made in his name to Liberty Theater Restoration Inc., P.O. Box 210, Astoria, OR. 97103.
