Ruth L. Jensen-Norman

Former area resident, 78Ruth L. Jensen-Norman, 78, of Beaverton, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, in Beaverton after a brief battle with cancer.

Mrs. Jensen-Norman was born April 2, 1925, in Laramie, Wyo., to the Rev. Thomas D. and Inez Rinde.

On July 6, 1948, she married Herbert J. Jensen-Norman Jr. He died in 1998.

Mrs. Jensen-Norman was raised and educated in Nebraska, graduating from Midland Lutheran College in 1946. She worked as a parish worker at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Mo., before moving to the Pacific Northwest. She lived in Mt. Vernon, Wash., Fairbanks, Alaska, Bellingham, Wash., and Astoria. She was a homemaker, active in the church wherever she lived and later worked as a parish worker, librarian, at a bank and at Clatsop Community College. She moved to Beaverton in 1993 to be nearer to family.

She belonged to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, PEO Sisterhood, and St. Vincent Hospital Volunteer Guild, where she served as president from 2002-03. She also volunteered in the gift shop at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts.

She is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia Bjorling of Monroe, Wis., Jane Jensen-Davis and Jeff Davis of Cambria, Calif., Mary and Bob Woods of Beaverton, Suzanne Jensen-Norman of Louisville, Ky., and Kathleen and Steve Streich of Redding, Calif.; a son, Andy Jensen-Norman of Bend; six siblings; and four grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, a daughter, Nancy Ann Jensen-Norman, preceded her in death.

Memorial service is 4 p.m. today at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Beaverton.
