Golf course owner, 94Charles M. “Charlie” Cartwright, 94, of Seaside, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Seaside.
Mr. Cartwright was born May 26, 1908, in Portland, to James Barton Cartwright and Maggie Mae Newman.
On Oct. 21, 1934, he married Okema Heckard in Seaside. She died in 1985.

Mr. Cartwright graduated from Seaside High School and Oregon State College in 1926. He was a major in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the army reserves. In 1931, he purchased the Seaside Golf Course and in 1954, built the ParTee Dining Room and Lounge extension. He and his wife operated the business until retiring in 1971.
He had been a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity since 1926; was an active member and past president of the Lions Club; had been a member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 1748 since 1948 and was the oldest living past exalted ruler of the Elks. He was also a member of the Seaside School Board, Seaside American Legion since 1946, Evergreen Lodge No. 137 AF & AM since 1946, Oregon Consistory since 1950, Al Kader Temple Schrine since 1950, Voiture No. 547 40 & 8 since 1948, the Lewis and Clark Association, Astoria Golf and Country Club where he was a past vice-president, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 1946 to 1954.
Family members say he enjoyed being with his family and had a good sense of humor.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pam Cartwright of Astoria and Jack and Jane Cartwright of Seaside; a daughter, Lynn Thomas of Portland; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, a daughter, Sue Ann Clark, died earlier.
Memorial service is 1 p.m. Friday at Seaside Christian Church.
