TILLAMOOK – The Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre, in association with Neah-Kah Nie Junior High School students, staff, parents and community, present “Carnival” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the school, 24705 U.S. Highway 101, north of Rockaway Beach.

“Carnival” is a show that showcases the arts through colorful costumes, masks, giant puppets and special effects using music and dance to celebrate the three largest carnival celebrations from Venice, New Orleans and Rio.

The entire student body of the Junior High School will take part in the program with added support from teachers, parents, high school students and the community.

Forty artisans worked on more than 50 costumes, masks, giant puppets and hundreds of props used in the performance. This two-year program is touring schools and events throughout the Pacific Northwest and will be part of a documentary film being created on the “Carnival Arts of the World.”

Admission is by donation and money raised will go toward the school’s activities programs and OCCT’s “Save Our Arts Fund,” which allows the theater to bring artistic programs to schools that have little or no funding for arts programming.

This performance is part of OCCT’s “Arts in Education Programs” sponsored by The Autzen Foundation, The Ford Family Foundation, The Herbert A. Templeton Foundation, The Share it Now Foundation, Trust Management Services of Oregon, The PGE Foundation and The Puffin Foundation of New Jersey. The program also received support from artists and professional companies in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Italy, Brazil and all over the United States.
