The famed dog party raises money for the Oregon Humane Society and Dove Lewis Memorial Animal Hospital. Ten percent of cash receipts that day will go to those organizations. Saturday, March 22Raintree Nursery in Morton, Wash., holds its annual full day of home gardening classes at the Morton Community Center. Sessions include grafting lessons, berries, propagation, best varieties, pests and diseases, backyard plant breeding, grapes and kiwis, pruning and others. The nursery will be open all day – the fee is $5 for the classes, with a $5 coupon available upon making a $50 purchase. Ongoing and upcomingSunday, March 30 The Berry Botanic Garden is the site for “Naturescaping for Clean Rivers,” a free class on the practice that features native plants, natural landscapes and water-friendly gardening practices. “Cultivating the American Garden,” a conference sponsored by Taunton Press, will be held May 3-4 at the Hilton Portland. Speakers include Gordon Hayward, a garden designer, lecturer and author; Lucy Hardiman, a writer and garden designer and Allan Armitage, an author and professor of horticulture at the University of Georgia. The two-day conference includes demonstrations, new plants and products, private garden tours and a bag of garden goodies. Early bird tickets are available for the annual Bainbridge in Bloom Garden Tour, an event that takes in six personal gardens and offers a lecture series, book and plant sale. The 15th annual tour takes place July 12-13, and includes a day of children’s gardening activities on July 9. Proceeds will benefit the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council.
