Astoria 4-H archery club has been making bulls-eyes in archery.
Several participants have been awarded ribbons since the program started about a year ago. Some of the winners include Eric Mathre, a fourth grade student who won first place and high school senior Ryan Padgett, who won second place.
Some 27 kids in fourth through 12th grades have been meeting and competing in monthly tournaments, in which they mail in the results. A Corvallis official studies the results and awards the students, who are competing against about 150 people statewide.
Students compete with in three classifications including bare bow, freestyle, freestyle release.
Participants do not need their own equipment. The group received a grand from Clatsop County Extensive Service District for $1200, which paid for six, competition-accurate bows and equipment to go with them.
The group practices Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at the Elks Hall basement. For information, contact instructors Wes and Melissa Padgett at 325-9011.
