CANNON BEACH – A small flash fire during construction work at the Tolovana Inn damaged a room Wednesday.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., a spark from a gas fireplace pilot light ignited flammable vapors from adhesive being used by construction workers, said Mike Graham, Cannon Beach fire marshal.
The workers at the inn, 3400 S. Hemlock St., were able to put out the blaze using a fire extinguisher, Graham said. Upon arrival, firefighters with Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue cleared the room of smoke with an exhaust fan.
Fire and smoke damage was confined to the room where ignition occurred, Graham added. Because of the construction work, there were no furnishings in the room at the time of the fire.
No one was injured.
“The estimated property loss was $10,000, mainly from smoke damage,” Graham said.
Cannon Beach responded with 14 firefighters under chief Cleve Rooper using one engine, one ladder truck and one rescue vehicle.
