A poetry CD release party at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the River Theater showcases 14 local poets who have been featured in the theater’s “spoken word” event, Monday Mike. Each will read two poems from the recording in the first act and, after an intermission with cake in the lobby, some other favorite poems.

The CD anthology, “Read At The River,” was produced this fall by Monday Mike producers/hosts Jim Dott and Florence Sage, and is available for a $10 tax-deductible donation as a fund-raiser for the nonprofit River Theater. It includes poetry from: David Blanchard, Robert Brown, James Dott, Claudia Harper, Nancy Hoffman, Anne Splane Phillips, Florence Sage, Patricia Staton-Thomas, Karin Temple and Donna Wright of Astoria; Sandra Foushee of Gearhart; Christy Phillips-Matlock of Svensen; Russell Hunter of Knappa; and Robert Michael Pyle of Gray’s River, Wash.

All are local writers who gave individual invited readings of poetry at the monthly event from January 2000 to June 2002. Monday Mike runs the second Monday of each month and welcomes both poetry and prose for a writers’ open mike, followed by the invited reading.

The CD anthology received production assistance from KMUN-FM, and financial support for production from coffee roaster and prose writer/editor Tim Hurd. All proceeds are donated to the River Theater, 230 W. Marine Drive.
