Construction closes Lewis and Clark Road to through traffic

Lewis and Clark Road will be closed to through-traffic one-quarter mile above the old Seaside dump today and Friday because of construction.

Three sharp curves are being combined into one sweeping curve to improve safety. The work is part of a $2-million project to realign and pave two miles of Lewis and Clark Road from the Resort Condominiums to the Weyerhaeuser Mainline intersection.

During the closure, Big River Excavation Inc. of Astoria will build the upper road tie-in to the new alignment. When the road reopens, traffic will be on the new alignment through the big cut at the top of the hill. Culverts will also be replaced.

The complete project is scheduled to be finished next June.
